JOHANNESBURG - The exclusively white Afrikaner town of Orania has come out to share its strategies with other communities that want to build similar settlements.
The controversial town is due to be formally recognised by the Northern Cape government, following a governance agreement between the African National Congress (ANC) and the Freedom Front Plus (FF PLUS) in the province.
Part of the agreement includes private-public partnerships for infrastructure development in the province.

Orania CEO Joost Strydom said that the enclave had provided a perfect framework for how like-minded communities can be self-sufficient.
"We encourage other communities in South Africa to follow this path to take responsibility for themselves. Orania as a community is growing and growing fast. We will continue to grow it both in population and in service delivery. Our basic services are built with our own funds, we receive nothing back on municipal level from the government, but we do pay taxes."
