Counterfeit goods worth over R15m seized in Joburg

JOHANNESBURG - Counterfeit goods valued at over R15-million have been seized in the Joburg CBD.

Police launched the joint operation with the revenue service, Gauteng Crime Wardens and private security.

The Counterfeit Goods Unit acted on intelligence and searched storage rooms at the mall.

They recovered over 18,000 items including shoes, sportswear, caps, handbags and perfumes.

The seizure comes on the back of similar operations over the past three weeks.

Last Thursday, police seized goods valued at over R7-million.

A bust on the 7th of June saw almost R6-million worth of goods confiscated.

This takes the total value of seized counterfeit goods in June to over R28-million.
