Fiji Airports Ltd (FAL) has issued a tender for the construction of a new Labasa airport building.

FAL states the development is part of its continued infrastructure program to improve service levels across their network.

"New Labasa Terminal will be a new single-story structure of approximately 1000m2 inclusive of head end services infrastructure," the tender document states.

"Fiji Airports Limited require the construction of the new Labasa terminals.

"The works include construction of temporary terminal to allow construction of new terminal to occur outside to an operational airport and require that the works are staged to enable the continued operation with less interruption."

Works will be in two stages where the construction of a Labasa temporary terminal will be done first prior to the demolition and reconstruction of the main terminal building at Labasa.

Under the World Bank funded Tourism Development Program on Vanua Levu, phase one works include improving access to and climate resilience of essential services -- such as drainage, sewage, and transport infrastructure, which includes the Labasa and Savusavu domestic airports, as well as an upgrade to the 95 kilometer road connecting the two towns.
