Marsalforn Breakwater project: EIA and related reports completed
Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri has said that with regards to the Marsalforn breakwater project, the contractor involved has completed all the reports related to the Environmental Impact Assessment as requested by the Environment and Resources Authority.
He explained that this had been passed to the Ministry for Gozo which is now analysing them so that if there are any amendments, they will be made before the same reports are officially sent to the ERA.
The Gozo Minister was replying to a Parliamentary Question put by Opposition MP Chris Said regarding the current situation on the project.
The complete project, which was launched in March 2021, is for a coastal defence system at Marsalforn Bay consisting of the reconstruction of Santa Marija breakwater, construction of a rubble mound berm on the Menqa site, two rubble mound groins at the valley outfall and replenishment of the Marsalforn beach.
Last year, geotechnical investigations were carried out at the site where the breakwater is planned to be constructed, at a cost of €214,434.00 excluding VAT. The results were integrated in the compilation of the Environmental Impact Assessment.
