Outsource Fiji's inaugural Women In Tech (WINTECH) event in Suva last week received the timely support of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), who came in as a sponsor and development partner.

Outsource Fiji executive director, Sagufta Janif stated: "The Women in Tech event aims to address the gender disparities faced by women in Fiji's tech space by providing a platform for networking, mentorship, and knowledge sharing.

"With the support and sponsorship from PIF, Outsource Fiji is able to extend its reach and involve women entrepreneurs not only in Fiji, but also from the broader Pacific region."

The event showcased "the potential for women in Fiji and the Pacific to leverage technology and innovation, ultimately contributing to job creation and economic growth," according to Ms Janif.

PIFs director Policy Joel Nilon said the event enabled PIF to involve women entrepreneurs with similar goals, particularly those in the technology sector, from the broader region, including Samoa and PNG, in the event.

"Their participation not only adds to Fiji's best practices but also offers valuable lessons, facilitates knowledge sharing, and fosters the exchange of ideas. Importantly, it highlights that the entire region, including Fiji, stands to benefit from this collaborative engagement," Mr Nilon said.

He added WINTECH highlighted the crucial role of technology and innovation in the development of the Pacific Islands.

"As one of the most isolated regions globally, the Pacific Islands can benefit greatly from advancements in technology and innovation, which can reduce trade costs, narrow distances, and promote sustainable and inclusive growth," he said.
